Saffron Walden Wildflower Group –
The Saffron Walden Wild Flower Group is a long established informal group of enthusiasts who arrange a programme of different monthly field walks from April to September, taking no more than about an hour and a half each. We enjoy exchanging views on the identification of the many species we find (rarities in particular!) which not only adds to our knowledge but the lists we make provide a detailed record of continuity, or change, and these records are welcomed by the Saffron Walden Museum to add to its archive of our local environment.
The Saffron Walden Wildflower Group held visits to the following places in 2025 –
16th April – Harrison Sayer nature reserve, Hadstock
21st May – Hadstock Wood – meet at the Hadstock Village Hall
18th June – – Rowney Wood, Wimbish
25th June – – Carver Barracks, Wimbish
9th July – – Aubrey Buxton nature reserve -Stansted
23rd July – Hadstock Recreation Ground – meet at the Village Hall
13th August – Felsted Nature Area https://felsted-pc.gov.uk/news/felsted-nature-area/
10th September – Hildersham bridleway and Roman Road
The surveys around Hadstock have been contributing to the Sustainable Hadstock plan organised by the Parish Council to catalogue the wildlife resources in the area. The visit to the Felsted Nature Area has likewise been copied to the Felsted Parish Council to help them with the management of the area.
We would very much welcome new members – anyone interested should please contact the group on this email address wildflowergroupsw@gmail.com.
